We recently ran into Dan Van Allen at a party for the unveiling of the 2010 edition of The Urbanite Project. You might remember Dan as creator of a few of Baltimore’s best festivals. On this occasion we found Dan supporting another one of his many passions, The Arrabers Preservation Society. Here’s Dan pictured with one of his signature mailboxes abounding with fresh fruit, which comes complete with an Arraber horse and buggy perched upon its arch.

Matthew Leffler-Schulman from Mobtown Studios and Russell de Ocampo of The Windup Space on day three of the first ever NOVO Instrumental Music Festival. Mobtown Studios and The Windup Space have teamed up to present this unique and important showcase of a diverse and exciting cross section of Baltimore’s music scene. Performers, including The Water, We Used To Be Family, Microkingdom, Jason Urick and de Ocampo’s own Yeveto, kept the stage at The Windup Space in a state of controlled phonic flux as the NOVO Festival claimed its place as an integral component of, what we like to call, the Baltimore Renaissance.

You may be familiar with Nathan Bell’s string of emotive banjo performances and, depending on how long you’ve been paying attention to local music in Baltimore, you may remember him as the bass player for Lungfish. Here’s a picture of him showing yet another dimension of his musicianship. Photo by Tedd Henn.

Ami Dang accompanied Nathan Bell for one of the most anticipated collaborations during the NOVO Festival.
