Finding an artistic outlet is crucial for many of us. Art allows us to explore, discover, and express who we are and what makes us tick.
LGBTQ youth do not always feel comfortable expressing themselves – often feeling like something is ‘wrong’ with them. Without support and acceptance, they struggle with feelings of isolation, bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, poor relationships, homelessness and suicide.
To provide support and acceptance, The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Central Baltimore (GLCCB) hosts an art program encouraging LGBTQ youth in Baltimore to, “Express Yourself!”
The Express Yourself! program gives LGBTQ youth a safe space to show their true selves and aids in positive development and self worth. It also allows them an opportunity to learn about queer artists, collaborate with other students, and develop their own expressive skills.
LGBTQ youth are an under-served population. GLCCB is working with GiveCorps to expand the Express Yourself! program and show more youth how to feel good about who they are.
