As the days heat up, kids across Baltimore will flood community pools, spending their days playing Marco Polo, snacking from concession stands, and soaking up the sun. Summer days at the pool are an iconic childhood experience.

But not all children are able to enjoy a day at the pool. Homeless children in our city can face a number of barriers that keep them from the pool, but sometimes they just don’t have the right attire!

Camp St. Vincent, St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore‘s summer camp for homeless children, is determined to give these kids a summer of fun! In addition to academic and cultural enrichment activities, campers receive daily swim and water safety lessons, giving them an opportunity they would not otherwise have – to spend their summer days at the pool.

Camp St. Vincent campers say that learning to swim is the highlight of camp every year.  But, being from shelters, many of the children do not have the essential bathing suit and towel needed to participate.

So, Camp St. Vincent and GiveCorps are working together to make sure that all 160 campers have the proper attire to spend summer days at the pool.  A gift of just $25 will provide a homeless child with a bathing suit and towel – you can make it happen!
