For some 180 consecutive days over the 2010 baseball season – rain or shine, whether the home team was in Baltimore or away – local photographers took a photo of Camden Yards. The project was “The Daily Camden” and when it was over, there were as many interpretations of the ballpark as there are ways to find a pitch to hit.

“Art isn’t art until it’s on the wall and shared,” said Alexandra Hewett, one of the participants – on both sides of the camera — and the person who lobbied to have the best of the photos displayed in an exhibit.

[Hewett also persuaded the Baltimore Orioles to subsidize the project and send the Oriole bird to the opening reception on April 2, opening weekend of the 2011 season.]

Xenos Kohilas, a painter, photographer and co-owner of Ikaros Restaurant in the Greektown section of Highlandtown, was charmed by the project and turned over a large section of his dining room to hang 29 of the photos. The artists include longtime shutter stars Jennifer Bishop, George Hagegeorge and Bonnie Schupp as well as newcomers Chris Ciattei and Emma Remsberg.

The exhibit – with photos on sale for $100 each — is on display at Ikaros through the end of this month. Proceeds from sales benefit inner city little league programs.
