Build Little Free Libraries & Build a Community of Books!

24 December 2012

★ GiveCorps

Great literature is built on conflict and unlikely heroes.

When the Enoch Pratt Library closed its Charles Village branch in 1997, community members rallied, filing a lawsuit and staging an elaborate funeral march for their library.

They lost their lawsuit but gained control of the historic building. Volunteers renovated the building and established the Village Learning Place as a lending library, learning center, computer lab, and community garden.

VLP is ready to take the literature to the streets.  They are building Little Free Libraries – dollhouse-sized libraries full of books to promote literacy throughout the neighborhood.

Build the Little Free Libraries by donating to the VLP project on GiveCorps.  Your gift will help Village Learning Place unveil ten Little Free Libraries in April for National Library Week.
