While the rest of us have been sweating out the summer in stagnant air filled, AC-free bedrooms, artist Daniel Wurtzel has been hoarding all the fans. Eight of them, to be exact. From there, the New York artist created a vortex for a sheet of lightweight red cloth. The fabric gets caught in the breeze. The resulting swooshy forms are breathtaking. Remember the plastic bag scene in American Beauty? It’s like that, but without the vomit-inducingly sweet dialogue.
Wurtzel’s piece, called Magic Carpet, has appeared been observed in New York and toured with Cirque Du Soleil. His ability to create the spectacular from ordinary objects and to toy so precisely with kinetics and spontaineity are pretty remarkable. Check out this video of the work.
