3D Street Art

05 July 2012

★ David London

If you have a couple dollars to spare, consider backing Station North’s Stereoscopic 3D Mural. As the project’s Kickstarter details, the three dimensional effect will be achieved through a method called anaglyphing, “created by merging two chromatically opposite colored images.” With the appropriate glasses (which you’ll receive if you contribute ten bucks), the images merge and appear multidimensional, thanks to an illusion known as the Pulfrich effect.

In the actualization of a bad pun, the two artists who will paint the mural are as multidimensional as their future artistic endeavor. Both Jake and Xxist are veterans of the United States Army who “gave up highly prestigious and successful civilian careers to pursue their dreams in art.” This project will allow them both to “launch their careers as professional artists.”

Donations won’t just fund the mural itself. They’ll also contribute to the creation of a video, which will document the creation of the artwork. To thank supporters, those involved with the project are throwing an afterparty. “The party will include a collective art show showcasing work by all of the individuals associated with this project, a meet and greet with the projects artist, and a sneak peak of the street art documentary, depicting the mural being painted over a time lapse.” Other rewards are also provided for larger contributors.
