Trayvon Martin Rally

28 March 2012

★ Glenford Nunez

For anyone paying attention to national news lately, it is hard to miss the media buzz surrounding Trayvon Martin. Trayvon was a 17 year old African American who was shot and killed on February 26th in Florida by a Neighborhood Watch volunteer, who thought he looked suspicious.

On Monday, March 25th, approximately 1200 people gathered for a rally in the streets of Baltimore, over 900 miles from where the incident occurred, to express solidarity, concern, and outrage at authorities in Florida, for not arresting the man who shot Trayvon. For many, this was an opportunity to gather and publicly address the racism that is still experienced throughout the country.

The rally, organized by the NAACP in conjunction with a variety of Baltimore Churches and civil rights groups, appears at a time when other such rallies are popping up across the country.

Photographer Glenford Nunez was on site at the Baltimore Rally and provided us with some great images.
