Friday night, the Maryland Art Place held its Annual Fall Benefit Exhibition and Silent Auction, which also celebrated MAP’s 30th anniversary.
Five paintings by the late Grace Hartigan were featured in the MAP gallery space for the first time. The pieces were bequeathed to MAP in 2009. In addition the gallery is showing work by several local and nationally-based artists.
The Benefit also honored a group of twelve women who have made generous contributions to the Baltimore art community. The honorees were Marin Alsop, Rheda Becker, Doreen Bolger, Suzi Cordish, Lynn Deering, Ethel Ennis, Nancy Grasmick, Leslie King-Hammond, Patricia Joseph, Mary Ann Mears, Joyce J. Scott, Leslie Shepard.
The evening began with a special presentation for the twelve women, with gifts presented to each of them by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings – Blake and Sue Hess from Maryland Citizens for the Arts.
The guests were then entertained by the Swingin’ Swamis, followed by a dance party with DJ Charisse Nichols, and a 3D video projection by Kristen Anchor.
For the first time, MAP created a silent auction website where all of the work and artists were featured before, during and after the IMPACT event. Any unsold work will be available on this site and in the gallery until Friday, December 16.
