On Thursday, June 2nd, friends, family and admirers of Erica Hinson Denny, a.k.a. Artfisch, gathered at Gallery 788 for her first gallery solo exhibition. The gallery has kept a space on the wall for her work since her untimely passing last year. Gallery 788, whose unconventional model is that of a cooperative venue that leases wall space as a source of revenue, broke it’s own rules to pay tribute to Erica’s life and art by hosting the month long solo exhibition. The gallery was conceived as a space to serve the community and, in turn, has become home for artists who have grown to see each other as “phamily” rather than simply peers, so paying tribute to one of its own and an exceptionally talented and creative woman is an example of the gallery living up to its mandate in serving our city’s artistic community.

What Weekly published a tribute to Erica last year and the family asked if we could print the tribute as a keepsake for Erica’s children. In response we expounded upon the original article and printed our first print magazine. The first run sold out at the opening reception. Further copies of the Artfisch tribute will be available in the near future. If you would like to be notified when they’re available please email us charmcity@whatweekly.com with a subject line of Artfisch Tribute.
