Area 405
Area 405:
A : 405 East Oliver Street, Baltimore, MD 21202
W : www.area405.com
H : by appointment
E: info@area405.com
WHAT IT IS:
Located at 405 East Oliver Street the space has a 160 year-old history as a brewery, industrial equipment maker, window blind manufacturer, and is now a artist-owned warehouse within Baltimore’s Station North Arts and Entertainment District, The urban character of the 66,000 square feet warehouse provides a particular and alternative setting for exhibitions as well as studio space for the 30+ artists who work there (Oliver Street Studios).
WHY WE LIKE IT:
Now as a re invisioned art gallery, the space challenges and inspires both exhibitors and performers in a way that traditional, neutral white-wallspaces cannot. Exhibitions here are an experience not to be missed, often times displaying large scale thought provoking work. The gallery also features an ongoing cinema series where the warehouse setting is transformed into a dining and movie-watching lounge where entertaining films are screened with a marvelous meal and pleasing potables precede each viewing. Menus are inspired by the night’s film, and oftentimes the choice of film is influenced by a current exhibit. What’s not to love?
