One year ago this mad filmmaker was standing out in a lighting storm chopping out rows of corn from a huge field, all in preparation for shooting a beta-test trailer for a micro-budget feature film called ROWS. After seeing so many amazing films at the Maryland Film Festival this year, I don’t feel so crazy anymore. Filmmakers are doing incredible work with minimal resources. I have directed/ produced / written other films (check out my IMBD) and now I am ready to shoot a feature with the cutting edge methods and tools of DIY indies.
WE ARE NOW CASTING. If you want to act, you can send headshots and resumes to info@rowsmovie.com. If you don’t have a fancy headshot, any good photo will do. Experience cool, but not necessary. Here’s the breakdown:
PRINCIPALS
Rose – 18 – 25, female. Sympathetic lead.
Greta – 18 – 25, female. Rose’s reckless friend.
Jack – 25 – 45, male. Construction worker. A little off.
Haviland – 40 – 70, female. Normal looking woman, but possibly an evil witch.

If it looks like a possible fit, we’ll invite you to tape an AUDITION. Rows will shoot in Harford County in late July and early August, 2011. Summertime, when the livin’ is easy and the corn is high.
ROWS is a psychological thriller. The inspiration for the story comes from my obsessive reading of Grimm’s Fairy Tales. While the trailer we cut last summer suggested a straight horror film, the story (I am still writing!) has evolved into something scary and disturbing, but more subtle and, dare I say, arty. The script plays with time and space in unusual ways, and we’re making great use of the principle of creative limitation.

We learned a lot from last summer’s exercise. This time around, we’re working with the farmer so that the corn is planted in the right places and patterns. He’s even going to use special seed that grows taller. Cool. If you run at full speed with bare arms through corn, the leaves will give you small cuts. You can shoot all day in the rain with a Stedicam. Houses aren’t the only thing that can be haunted. Making a film is like the best summer camp you ever went to.
