(in no particular order)

Each week we round up the most fun goings-on in the city.  Please submit your event to our calendar if you’d like to see yourself here!  We are pleased to partner with car service Uber Baltimore to help you get to your events in style!  Download the Uber app and get a free ride ($20 credit) when you sign up with code WhatWeekly.  No subscription or obligation required!  Just get the app, use the code and off you go!

1. Requiem: Post-Punk and Darkwave at the Crown

Eighties, Dark and Dance-y

What Weekly makes no secret of our love for certain theatrical bands of the eighties – early 4AD records, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy et al.  So we are clearly thrilled to see a night that promises as much at the Crown. If you see someone with purple fingernails and a Psychic TV tank top come say hi!

2. J. Dilla Tribute at Windup Space

A nod to some sadly-lost Innovation in Hip Hop

The 8th annual tribute to J-Dilla, Friday February 28th 2014 at The Wind-up Space in Baltimore Maryland,  it’s a celebration of J Dilla’s life/legacy with DJs sets and performances by local musician who cover Dilla-produced music.

3. Viva Brasil!  Carnival Dance Party at Creative Alliance

Carnavale!

Our annual samba throw-down! Samba Trovao returns to transform The Patterson into a Carnival street party. Start with a special performance by the all-women percussion band Batala DC, followed with a samba dance lesson and a traditional Carnival show in full costume! Brazilian Latin grooves from DJ Luiz Louco & DJ Miguel De Amor! Fresh Caipirinhas at the cash bar!

4. Tombs, Dendritic Arbor and more at Sidebar

Heavy Mettle

Exciting experimental band from Brooklyn, Tombs mixes up the usual heaviness with some sophisticated trips through a wide range of metal sub-genres and makes this a show worth going for even the least kilt of us.  Thanks to promoter Hasan Ali for bringing this and other unusual gems to Baltimore and promising this humble writer some free passes.

5. Workin’ the Tease: Burleaque Fundraiser at Area 405

Support the Sultry

On Saturday, March 1st, from 7pm-10pm, AREA 405 will host a fundraising event to help support the exhibition and live show. This ticketed event will include live burlesque performances, music, a themed dinner, and auctions of merchandise, memorabilia, and original artwork. Proceeds from this event will help EDS further our development of “Workin’ the Tease” and will kick off our celebration of Baltimore’s incredible burlesque scene. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online here.

6. Oscars Viewing Party at Lord Baltimore Hotel – MICA Benefit

Join us at this very elegant affair on Sunday to benefit MICA’s film program.  Our friends at Heid’n’Seek entertainment know how to have a great event and we look forward to seeing everyone out and dressed to the 9s.  Come say hi and make a wager (bragging rights only of course) on which films are going to sweep the awards.
