Kara is a take charge kind of girl.  She’s creative, talkative, and full of energy.  But, she can be quite a handful in the classroom – talking over teachers and often unfocused.

These behaviors cause daily struggles for Kara in school.

During her after-school program in puppetry run by Arts in Remington (AIR),  Kara displays the same behaviors.  But, through acceptance, positive feedback, and an outlet for her creativity, she has learned to use art to focus, collaborate with her peers, and become a leader.

After a few weeks in the program, Kara looked at the AIR teacher and said, “I can truly be myself here.”

That’s what AIR is all about. An arm of Episcopal Church of the Guardian Angel (Guardian Angel), AIR strives to give the people of Remington an outlet to express themselves through art equally and without limitations.

In order to maintain AIR, Guardian Angel is partnering with GiveCorps to raise the funds to hire an AmeriCorps member to take on a year long artist-in-residence.  The artist-in-residence will direct the after-school art programs at Green School of Baltimore, weekly adult workshops called Feel Better, and Cellar Art – a family art resource.

Your gift to AIR will fund the artist-in-residence bringing art programming to 41 individual youth, seniors and families in Remington.  And, you’ll keep artistic expression alive in Remington!
