And just like that, Artscape is over.

Though the weekend started rainy and wet, by Sunday, the crowds were out in the masses, and America’s Largest Free Arts Festival was booming.

What Weekly photographers Philip Laubner, Theresa Keil and Larry Cohen were on hand throughout the weekend to capture the magic and madness of the event.

For your viewing pleasure, we have divided the photos up into groups: Roadside Attractions, National Park, The Art Cars, The Music, and The People.

If you were there, please take a  moment to reminisce about the crazy weekend. If you were not able to make it, take the opportunity to see what you missed. and don’t forget to mark your calendars for next year.

Roadside Attractions

Steeped in American history, roadside attractions were popularized in the 1940s-60s, designed to attract travelers to stop while en route to other destinations. These unusual and appealing attractions can still be found all over the country and are often characterized by oversized sculptural works, novelty architecture and surprising exhibits.

The Roadside Attractions corridor at Artscape included clusters of outdoor art exhibits, interactive performances, road signs, billboards, music and theme-oriented destinations.

National Park

What do you do when you have a giant parking lot on a road that’s closed for a weekend? You turn it into a temporary museum of interactive art. National Park was located just across from the Charles Theatre and included work by What Weekly Favorite Robert Marbury, along with Lauré Drogoul, Baltimore Free School, and other!
