Free Fall Baltimore: The Movement

11 October 2012

★ David London & Theresa Keil

Free Fall Baltimore 2012 celebrated its first weekend last week, with over 30 free events around the city. Now in its seventh year, Free Fall Baltimore brings a month of free cultural activities to your doorstep. Over the course of the month, over 300 Free events are offered, with at least one on nearly every day of October. The month of programming, spearheaded by the Baltimore Office of Promotion and The Arts encourages Baltimore’s residents and visitors to search out something new, and to provide a taste of the many performances, workshops, classes, exhibitions, lectures, festivals, concerts, and tours that are available in our city year round.

Last Saturday Night, as part of Free Fall Baltimore, the Meyerhoff Auditorium at the Baltimore Museum of Art played host to The Movement, a collaboration between The Baltimore Improv Group and The Collective. For this one time production, the collaborators used their bodies to create their own sets, props & environments. Developing characters, plots & dialog in their minds, they then presented a seamless integration of dance and improv using excerpts of repertoire from The Collective’s SHORTS along side impromptu responses from the actors. To make things even more interesting, the dancers and improvisers responded and performed to music provided by the audience through their mp3 players.

If you missed The Movement, What Weekly photographer Theresa Keil was on hand to capture the excitement of the night. If you don’t want to miss this weekends happenings at Free Fall, be sure to check out our listing below! Or, click here for a complete listing of Free Fall Baltimore events over the coming weeks!
