Interactions at Minás

Interactions is a collection of paintings that is both intimate and universal all at once. Intimate because the subjects of the paintings are impressions of relationships shared by the artist. They’re universal because one can easily find themselves over and over again in the organic tones and hues that shape the exuberant energy of the pieces. Even the individual portraits convey a certain celebratory sentiment.

More directly, this collection of paintings captures a particularly telling facet of the lives of the artist, Minás Konsolas and his wife Peggy Hoffman. Interactions feels like an homage to an artistic community in Baltimore that you might find at one of the many events hosted by Peggy and Minás in their gallery and boutique on The Avenue in Hampden. The space on the second floor has been an anchor for the creative community by offering an open and inviting venue to gather and share ideas. The boutique, a reflection of Peggy’s remarkable taste, provides us with a thoughtful alternative to soulless retail sold to us by strangers. The gracious attitude of the hosts has generated sincere affection from the community. Interactions, seems to me, a reflection of the love affair between the couple and the community that adores them.

The following pictures were taken at the recent opening reception and, fittingly enough, depict an atmosphere not unlike the ones in the paintings. The exhibit will be featured at Minás Gallery until August 28th. Follow this link to learn more about the paintings and the artist’s process.
