Recently, the band Segway got together with over seven hundred and fifty of their closest friends to celebrate the release of their debut album ‘Full Circle.’ How often does a band draw that kind of a crowd for their first release? I’m gonna say about as often as Glenn Beck can satisfy a woman. In my estimation, that’s a rare event indeed.

Segway has been quietly gaining a grassroots following over the past several years sharing the stage with such jam giants as the Disco Biscuits, STS9 and Lotus. They’re a regular at several festivals up and down the East Coast and are the winners of this week’s prestigious and highly coveted “Baltimore Band Most Likely To Cause A Dance Party To Explode All Over Your Floor” award.

This band takes jam band sensibilities and fuses it with house, new wave, funk and indie pop influences. They craft a sound that can turn any run-of-the-mill dance party into a life affirming celebration. I’ve only heard a few tracks from the album, but from what I can discern the band benefited from waiting this long for their first release. The songs have had the time to mature and solidify into tight jams that would compliment any music collection.

“It’s like we’ve hit a new plateau. We didn’t start this band with the idea of trying to be rock stars. We’ve just been taking our time to see where it goes. Right now, it feels amazing.”
