Ms S on her porch

At 78 years old with a very limited income and living with rhematoid arthritis, Ms. S can no longer keep up with home repairs.

Ms. S is a retired Baltimore City Schools cafeteria manager who spends her free time tutoring at the local elementary school.  She’s a vital part of her neighborhood, but her home is no longer safe.

Her roof leaks, her basement stairs are broken, and there’s a hole in the back porch floor.  The house needs plumbing and electrical work, and insulation to address high energy bills. Handrails and bathtub grab bars are also needed to keep Ms. S safe and comfortable in the home she’s loved for 27 years.

Ms. S doesn’t want to leave her home or her neighborhood.  Rebuilding Together Baltimore (RTB) is partnering with GiveCorps to make sure she doesn’t have to.

RTB preserves affordable homeownership in low-income neighborhoods by helping seniors and other low-income homeowners stay in their homes. This spring over 30 volunteers will descend on Ms. S’s house to complete more than 60 repairs that will make her home warmer, safer, drier, and more energy efficient.

With our help, RTB will repair dangerous and unhealthy living conditions for more than 60 senior and low-income homeowners like Ms. S in Baltimore and Baltimore County.
