Preach! New Works by Jeffrey Kent is a solo exhibition held at the Frederick Douglass Isaac Myers Maritime Park. Baltimore-based artist Jeffrey Kent presents a new body of work that draws parallels
between the Civil Rights Movement and the ongoing debate over marriage equality in the United States.
“This [body of] work explores the premise that Americans, who fought to achieve justice and equality, now deny it” – Kent
The Maryland Institute College of Art’s current Exhibition Development Seminar is a yearlong course featuring a group of student curators, educators and designers working with the Frederick Douglass – Isaac Myers Maritime Park.

CreateBaltimore has become an annual gathering of Baltimore-based innovators and changemakers. In an intense, day-long event, members of our city’s robust creative community combine ideas and action on behalf of Baltimore. We offer a unique opportunity to connect disparate groups: technologists and artists, entrepreneurs and activists, institutions and instigators, young students and seasoned professionals. At CreateBaltimore, individuals from these seemingly isolated groups are united by their shared commitment to this city.
In addition to this mission, we value:
Change and Hope: We know tomorrow will be different than today. We love that it can be better.
Creativity and Improvisation: We encourage exploration of new territory with a deep understanding of our past.
Ownership: We believe in taking pride and responsibility for words and actions.
Beauty: We feel all things in the world affirm and reconcile us to life. (Craig Goodworth)

We couldn’t let winter keep us away! The Baltimore Family Bike Party is back with a ride on quiet neighborhood streets through southwest Baltimore. After the ride we hope you’ll join us to warm up at the B&O Railroad Museum!
RSVP on Facebook today!
What is the Baltimore Family Bike Party?
The Baltimore Family Bike Party is a safe and fun bike ride for kids and families. Our rides are short and comfortable for young children on two-wheeled bikes (sorry, no training wheels on this ride) or adults with children in trailers or bike seats. If you are new to family biking, check out the Totcyle Family Biking Ages & Stages guide for plenty of suggestions on how to use seats, trailers, cargo bikes and more to keep your whole family rolling.
We know it might be chilly this month so our ride at the B&O Railroad Museum as a fun place for everyone to warm up! The museum is offering half-price admission to celebrate the museum’s recovery from a major roof collapse ten years ago. The museum is also offering free admission in February to any Maryland Zoo members. Any questions or suggestions? Get in touch!

We are not going to try to describe our music. We write and play music we like, period. That’s it. There are no other parameters. If we like it, we play it, no matter the genre or style. Its not uncommon to hear a rap tune followed by a metal song into an blues jam or an R&B ballad at a Lincoln show.

Sweet ‘art is a celebration of the collaborative and connective qualitites that have grown Area 405 into a vital part of Baltimore’s arts and cultural community over the past ten years.
Participants are artists who have shown here, volunteered, interned, hosted an event here, have studios here, or in some way have worked with us since our debut in February 2003. The 60 artists who replied to our call were paired at random with one another, creating a sweet, new connection. The artists were tasked to contact one another and begin a conversation. The results of these 30 collaborations will involve all new works, a confluence of existing works, new individual works with a common theme, and select pairings that have all been chosen by the collaborators themselves. We are excited for this exhibition and look forward to seeing what each pairing brings!
The Exhibition runs through March 13th, 2013. Area 405 is open Sundays noon-3pm and by appointment.
