Join leading thinkers, activists, artists, philosophers and entertainers from the Baltimore area. TED conferences bring together the world’s leading thinkers and doers for a series of talks, presentations and performances.
TED events have been called “a clearing house of free knowledge and inspiration,” “you can’t return to the real world thinking the same thoughts you thought before, ” “the ultimate forum for blue-sky thinking,” and “a holiday for the mind.”
What can you expect to see? Speakers at TED events – some of the world’s most fascinating, innovative and influential individuals – are challenged to give “the talk of their life” in 18 minutes or less. Sharing and connection happens from the stage or in the lounge. It’s the conversation that will change your life.
TEDxBaltimore celebrates the power of ideas to positively change the world; we aim to build community by bringing together like-minded people who believe in this mission.

People are ready for real country music again,” says Randy Houser, and there are few people in a better position to give it to them.
Blessed with one of his generation’s great voices, he is also a world-class songwriter, penning hits for artists including Trace Adkins and Justin Moore, and a seasoned entertainer known for the passion and energy he brings to every performance.

Effervescent Collective premiered Butter Knife in September 2012 at the “ballroom” of the Coward Shoe warehouse. Revived for another run at The Creative Alliance, Butter Knife holds onto it’s origins of decoration and decorum. It picks out the parts and pieces of what it feels like to compose yourself, marveling at what we are composed of. Butter Knife is pretty sarcastic. It’s pretty. And it’s sarcastic. At least when you first meet. Butter Knife messes up duets, slices through quartets and ends with an offering of intimate solos danced by Rachel Boss, Brittany Grant, Lily Kind, and Erin Reid. The score is performed live, arranged and conducted by Louis Weeks.
After the show, Funk Friday invites the audience onto the dance floor with their soulful grooves.

BUTTER KNIFE IS BACK! JAN 25 @ the CREATIVE ALLIANCE!
Butter Knife, made for the “ballroom” of the Coward Shoe warehouse located on Howard St., messes around with decoration and decorum.
Butter Knife picks out the parts and pieces of what it feels like to compose yourself, marveling at what we are composed of. Butter Knife is pretty sarcastic. It’s pretty. And it’s sarcastic. At least when you first meet. Choices are contagious! Here, have some.
Butter Knife was originally danced by Effervescent’s smallest cast to date, Rachel Boss, Sierra DaSelvia, Erin Reid, and Lily Kind, for whom heat makes everything soft and therefore unbreakable. The score, performed live, is arranged and conducted Louis Weeks, featuring vocals from Serena Shapero.
The 45 minute dance performance will be followed by a night of groovy funk from J. Pope & Funk Friday.
